South Korean Heartthrob Park Seo Joon To Join MCU In ‘The Marvels’, Alongside Brie Larson

After weeks of speculations and to the joy of fans, South Korean actor Park Seo-Joon will be stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all.

According to an update on IMDB, Park will be making his Hollywood debut in the highly-anticipated film, The Marvels. The Marvels will be a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Captain Marvel and it is expected to be released in theatres on November 11, 2022.

Park will star alongside Brie Larson who plays Carol Denvers or ‘Captain Marvel’, as well as with other cast members Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan.

According to several media reports, the actor will be heading to the United States to begin filming for the film in late 2021. At the moment, Park is in the midst of filming the South Korean disaster thriller Concrete Utopia where he stars alongside Lee Byung-Hun and Park Bo-Young.

While his role remains unknown at the moment, many fans have begun speculating that he may play Korean-American teenage hero Amadeus Cho, who goes by the alias ‘Brawn’. The teenage hero is also said to be The Hulk’s successor.

Park will be the third Korean actor to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Previously, actress Claudia Kim played Helen Cho (who happens to be Amadeus Cho’s mother) in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. Most recently, we see Ma Dong-Seok as Gilgamesh in the trailer for the up-and-coming film Eternals, which features Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, and more.

For the uninitiated, Park is most commonly known for his roles as an impulsive police academy undergraduate in Midnight Runners (2017 film), a narcissistic vice chairman in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018 drama), a martial artists-turned-demon hunter Yong Hoo in The Divine Fury (2019 film), and an almost irritatingly dignified convict-tuned-restaurant owner in Itaewon Class (2020 drama).

Park also played a minor character Min-Hyuk, a student from a wealthy family who is a close friend with one of the film’s less well-to-do protagonists, in the 2019 Oscar-winning Parasite by Bong Joon-Ho. In an interview with Soompi, Director Bong Joon Ho said, “Min Hyuk is an almost otherworldly character, and he’s very important to Ki Woo. Because of this, I needed someone like Park Seo Joon who just has a presence about him. Moreover, Park Seo Joon and Choi Woo Sik are close friends in real life, so because of the natural chemistry they have, we were really satisfied with the result.”
