Your List of Korean Shows for August

It's that time again! Where here at ABC KOREA, we give you a list of must-watch Korean programmes for the month. This month, we bring to you four dramas and three movies — you can watch the movies during busy periods where you just really need some time to relax and unwind, and catch the dramas on days where you can afford to binge ;)

Confession

Drama: Since Choi Do Hyun (played by Lee Joon Ho) was a boy, he has been in and out of hospitals because of his heart disease. One day, he miraculously receives a heart transplant. But after a successful surgery, he wakes up to the news of his father being arrested and charged for murder. Determined to get to the bottom of this mystery, Do Hyun becomes a lawyer to investigate his father's case.

Innocence

Movie: If you're interested in watching Confession but may not have the time to sit down for a drama yet, try Innocence instead! This Korean movie is based on a true story that centers around Ahn Jung In (played by Shin Hye Sun). Ahn is a lawyer who chooses to defend her mother after she was accused for murder. Through her investigations, she discovers the untold secrets of her village. The film topped the South Korean box office during its opening weekend, and was also nominated for award shows like the Bull Film Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards.

Lovers of the Red Sky

Drama: Perfect for those who love period dramas, Lovers of the Red Sky is based off the novel Hong Chun Gi and is a historical fantasy romance drama set in the Joseon era. Hong Cheon Gi (played by Kim Yoo Jung) is a young but extremely talented painter who becomes Joseon's first female painter after being accepted into the palace's royal college. There, she meets Ha-ram (played by Ahn Hyo Seop), a blind astrologer and falls in love with him. Together, they become embroiled in palace politics surrounding the two princes Prince Anpyeong (played by Gong Myung) and Prince Sooyang (played by Kwak Si Yang).

The Box

Movie: If you didn't manage to catch this movie when it was in theatres in Singapore, now's your chance! The Box is EXO's Chanyeol's first leading role on the silver screen where he plays the role of an aspiring singer with severe stage fright. He meets a washed-up former producer who comes up with a plan: to perform inside a box so that he can't see everyone watching him. The writer watched this movie when it was in cinemas and was listening to the soundtrack on repeat for probably a week or two after!

Save Me 2

Drama: Based on the 2013 animation movie The Fake, Save Me 2 takes place in a small rural village of Wolchoori. Kim Min Cheol (played by Um Tae Goo) returns to his hometown after hearing the news that it would soon be submerged only to find strange, suspicious faces. Little does he know, there are plans from a certain group of people to set up a fake religious organisation to lead the town astray.

Voice of Silence

Movie: What happens when you're just following your superior's order to take care of a little girl, but you end up becoming her kidnapper? This is the situation faced by Tae In (played by Yoo Ah In) and Chang Bok (played by Yoo Jae Myung), two diligent workers in a clean-up crew for a crime organisation. Without knowing it and without meaning to, they find themselves as part of a kidnap case and are at a loss with what to do with their charge.

The Road: The Tragedy of One

Drama: Royal the Hill is a place where only the top one percent of society can live in. But underneath that façade of luxury and grandeur lies the unseen lives full of secrets, desires, guilts, and salvation that boils over when tragedy strikes. When it rains, it pours. As they try to come to terms with one disaster, another crashes upon them.
