Microwave Spaghetti Taste Test + Giveaway!

Every Singaporean would have heard of instant noodles — maybe from all those ill-advised suppers or mid-day hunger pangs. But have you heard of instant spaghetti?

Think spaghetti that you won't have to boil water or heat up pasta sauce for. Just pop it in the microwave for 90 seconds and you're good to go!

Today, we'll be taste-testing the three flavours of Lotte Chefood's Korean Spaghetti available at KJF Mart.

(P.S. KJF Mart is currently having a giveaway worth $150 with ABC KOREA! Read on for details on how to enter!)

The instant spaghetti packets contain pre-cooked spaghetti, a packet of sauce, a fork and a bowl to eat with. All you have to do is add the spaghetti, then the sauce, microwave it for 90 seconds and your meal is ready!

Spaghetti Bolognaise

Bolognaise is a creamy, meat-based sauce with a hint of tomato that originated in Bologna, Italy.

The bolognaise sauce mixes well with the spaghetti to give a rich (but not overpowering) flavour. There are small chunks of tomato and meat in the sauce, and you can taste a hint of herbs in the sauce, adding another layer to it.

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys pasta and would like a quick and easy snack on lazy days.

If you have the time and don't mind some extra work, you can even add in some coriander or diced tomatoes to upgrade your meal!

Spaghetti Pomodoro

Pomodoro is Italian for tomato and is usually made with tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and basil.

The pomodoro sauce tastes very similar to that of the bolognaise, just lighter in flavour and a little more tangy. This could be because pomodoro does not contain meat or milk that is usually found in bolognaise. Like the bolognaise, you will be able to find chunks of tomato in the sauce sans the meat.

I recommend this to anyone who tends to find bolognaise too surfeiting but prefer tomato-based pasta sauces.

If you would like, you can also add some spring onion, garlic, or even cheese.

Spaghetti Carbonara

Carbonara is a cheesy, creamy sauce that originated in Rome, Italy.

The carbonara sauce is by far the thickest and most flavourful sauce, but it can get quite salty at times. It can get a little surfeiting if you eat too much of it, so it'll be best not to add extra cheese to your dish. You can also find small pieces of ham and mushroom in the sauce.

I recommend this to anyone who prefers cream-based pastas over tomato-based ones, and also those who prefer a stronger flavour in their food.

If you have some ham lying around, you can also dice a small amount to add to your meal.

Of the three types of spaghetti I've tried, my favourite is the carbonara one, probably because that's the type of pasta I like the most. Three other people tried it, and two of them chose carbonara as their favourite, while one chose bolognaise as their favourite.

It's really a super simple meal to whip up if you're feeling hungry in the middle of the day (or night). Since it comes with everything you'd need, no clean-up is needed and you can just throw the packaging away when done!
