7 Must See Places In Korea During Autumn Season

Now that there is a global pandemic, there are a lot of things that many of us miss doing. One of them is travelling. In Asia alone, there are many countries that are popular to tourists such as Japan, Thailand, Philippines and of course, our personal favourite – South Korea.

Right now, South Korea has begun its autumn season. This month is actually considered one of the best times to visit, because of the refreshing weather that is not that hot, but also not that cold.

Although we can’t visit anytime soon, here are some locations you need to add on your list once travelling is allowed again!

Nami Island

No matter what the season is, 남이섬or commonly known as Nami Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Korea. It is located in the Gangwon Province and is approximately 1 hour away from the capital, Seoul. Aside from nature tripping, other fun activities in the island includes renting a bike and hunting the spots where scenes from K-dramas like Winter Sonata, Secret Garden and My Love from the Star were filmed!

The entrance fee, which includes the round-trip ferry ride costs ₩13,000 or around $15 SGD.

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Built in 1395, it is the main royal palace during the Joseon Dynasty. When the Imjin War happened, the premises of the palace were destroyed by fire. It was then abandoned for two centuries. Under the leadership of Grand Internal Prince Heungseon, all of the palace’s 7,700 rooms were eventually restored.

The palace is open every day, except for Tuesday. The ticket costs ₩3,000 or $3.50 SGD for adults and ₩1,500 or $1.80 SGD for visitors aged 7 to 18. Fun fact: if you enter wearing a 한복 (which means han-bok, a traditional korean clothing), the admission fee is waived!

Asan Gingko Tree Road

This place is probably one of the most famous locations in South Korea during the fall season. It is also a hotspot for landscape photographers due to the vivid yellow colours of the leaves that cover even the ground! The trees are lined up in a long avenue, which is a perfect spot for every tourist to capture memorable photos.

It will take you around 1 hour and 10 minutes to reach the destination if you’re coming from Seoul. Nevertheless, the picturesque scene will definitely make the travel worth it!

Mt. Bukhansan

If you prefer to be on the adventurous side during travels, then hiking at Mt. Bukhansan is the perfect activity! This place offers a 6.8 kilometre trail, which will allow you to enjoy the surroundings that are enveloped in red, yellow and orange leaves during autumn season.

Apart from hiking, Mt. Bukhansan is also a popular destination for rock climbing and bird watching. In average, around 5 million people visit the place every year. Since it is a famous location, there is a limit of 1,000 visitors daily. So, you better make sure to reserve a slot here if you plan on going!

N Seoul Tower

Standing at 774 feet tall, Namsan Tower is a communication and observation tower located in Central Seoul. It was built in 1969 and opened to public eleven years later. Tourists can ride the cable car to reach the top. It is also famed for the “Love Padlocks”, where couples hang padlocks to symbolize their eternal love.

Its lights aren’t just for decorations too! It is actually used to indicate the level of air pollution! On clear days, the tower is lit up in blue. When it is color red, it means that the air pollution is extremely bad and mask is needed when going outside. Green symbolises “fair” air quality while yellow indicates “bad”.

Yanju Nari Park’s Pink Muhly Fields

Trees and flowers are not the only things than can be colourful. Grasses can too! At Yanju Nari Park in Gyeonggi Province, beautiful pink muhly fields await tourists. They grow during the fall, which is why it is another popular destination during this season.

The park is open daily from 9am to 9pm and the admission fee is ₩2,000 or $2.30 SGD for adults and ₩1,000 or $1.20 SGD for children.

Deoksugung Stone-wall Road

K-drama lovers are probably familiar with this location as this is where Kim Shin (played by Gong Yoo) and Ji Eun-tak (played by Kim Go-eun) crossed paths for the very first time!

Apparently, it is also a well-known spot during the autumn season. Also called the “Walls of Deoksogung Palace”, this 900 meters long walkway is considered South Korea’s first successful attempt in building an urban space where people can enjoy nature in perfect harmony.

Now if you’ve reached the end of this list, you must be dying to pack your bags and book the next flight to Seoul. Don’t worry, we are feeling the same! For now, let’s all keep our fingers crossed so we can see these places real soon.
