September is here! From this month onward, our editorial team will be curating monthly K-Picks at the beginning of every month where we share our newest Korean product discoveries — be it beauty, food, lifestyle, or the likes. We hope that you'll find something that you like from September's K-Picks.
This month, we bring to you these wondrous food & beauty finds.
Forment's Signature Perfume - Cotton Memory
Previously, we had a list of perfumes recommended by celebrities. Now, we'd like to recommend a perfume too! Forment is a brand under Aprilskin that was initially made, well, for men. But their Memory line is made specially for women. Their signature scent, Cotton Memory, is an extrait de parfum (the most concentrated form) that smells of grapefruit, peach, neroli, and cotton.
If I had to explain it, I'd say it has a clean, floral cotton scent that is equal parts feminine and androgynous (if that... even works...) I'm not a perfume person but I couldn't not get my hands on Cotton Memory after I first had a whiff of it.
You can get Formet's Signature Perfume - Cotton Memory here. They are also having a free hologram pouch with every purchase!
2. Montval's Marvel Matte Lipstick
When you think of smudge-proof, long lasting lip products, you're more inclined to think about lip tints and lip stains rather than an actual bullet lipstick. But Montval's Marvel Matte Lipsticks are here to challenge that notion! The lipsticks come with their own pouch to protect its sleek, matte exterior from scratches and come in five rich MLBB colours.
While not marketed to be smudge-proof, the product is pretty smudge-resistant and lasts all day! Furthermore, this matte lipstick does not dry out your lips, and even smooths out the lines on your lips.
You can get Montval's Marvel Matte Lipstick here. The orders are currently closed, but you can request for K Shoppa to bring them in!
3. KUNDAL's Honey & Macadamia Shampoo and Treatment
If you're looking for affordable, safe, clean, and Muslim-friendly shampoo and treatment, look no further! KUNDAL's Honey & Macadamia Shampoo and Treatment is made from all-natural ingredients and are free from harmful chemicals like sulfates, parabens, and phtalates. Coming in at around $10 per 500ml bottle, they hit the sweet spot of being both good for you, and good for your wallet!
Currently, I'm using the Honey & Macadamia Shampoo in the scent Baby Powder, and the Treatment in the scent Acacia Moringa. The baby powder scent just smells like... Well... Baby powder, allowing you to reminisce on your younger days while in the shower. The acacia moringa scent is a lot more up my alley with its light, floral scent that isn't too nauseatingly sweet. I have very damaged hair from bleaching it four times and then colouring it, but my hair has noticeably become a lot softer and smoother since I started using their treatment a few weeks back!
You can get KUNDAL's Honey & Macadamia Shampoo, Treatment, and even Hair Serum, Body Lotion, and Body Wash here.
4. Innisfree's Volcanic Calming Pore Clay Mask
Maskne still acting up on you? May we present: Innisfree's Volcanic Calming Pore Clay Mask, suitable for all skin types! Most of the times, you find clay masks to be made for oilier skin types to get rid of the excess sebum, making it too harsh for those with dry and sensitive skin. Innisfree's newest launch is equal parts moisturising as it is effective in getting rid of excess sebum to leave you feeling fresh and clean after your skincare routine.
The Volcanic Calming Pore Clay Mask contains AHA and PHA that gently exfoliates your skin, and the addition of madecassoside and carbonated spring water from Jeju Island hydrates, soothes, and nourishes your skin to give you a natural glow from within.
You can get Innisfree's Volcanic Calming Pore Clay Mask here.
5. Grocery Seoul's At Night Konjac Noodles (Spicy Carbonara)
Sometimes we crave that bowl of instant noodles when catching up on the latest K-Drama in the middle of the night. But as we all know, supper isn't the healthiest meal of the day for us. That's why we recommend Grocery Seoul's At Night Konjac Noodles! Konjac is very low in calories, making it perfect for when we want to snack on something, but don't want to affect our overall health.
I've tried the spicy carbonara flavour and I must say, this is one of the best instant noodles I've ever had! The preparation is simple: just pour everything into the bowl, add some water, and pop it into the microwave for five minutes. Once it's out, mix well and enjoy! Despite the usual heaviness of carbonara, Grocery Seoul's At Night Konjac Noodles in spicy carbonara is extremely light with a slight tinge of spice that will comfort you during a particularly heart-wrenching scene of your K-Drama.
You can get Grocery Seoul's At Night Konjac Noodles here (to be launched soon!).
6. Chuga's Lychee and Apple-flavoured Soju
Two different flavours of soju, actually — I just couldn't choose between them! Chuga is a new soju brand on the block and it's steadily gaining fans, for good reason! Their soju is affordable and comes in both well-loved flavours like peach and muscat grape, as well as innovative flavours like lychee and apple!
This is 100% not sponsored and just your writer being the average alcoholic on the block, but I've tried almost all the flavours from Chuga! The apple-flavoured soju tastes a lot like apple juice, but alcoholic. So think of it like a throwback to your kindergarten days, just that you're now old enough to drink alcohol! The lychee-flavoured soju is AMAZING. Sweet and light, I'd advise that you beware of how much you're drinking before you unwittingly get drunk.
You can get Chuga's sojus here.
7. Good Tea Culture Company's Matcha Green Tea Powder
We all know the health benefits that matcha has — not only does it detox, relieve your stress, and lowers your cholesterol, the catechins found in matcha also helps to fight cancer! However, finding quality matcha powder proves to be quite a challenge, and it's not feasible to shell out a little over $5 everyday for a cup of matcha latte either. Thus, we recommend Good Tea Culture Company's Matcha Green Tea Powder that hails from a single estate family farm in Gwangju, South Korea. Their matcha powder also contains chlorella, a superfood known for its many health benefits.
I like to mix mine into a cup of kopi-o kosong, which reminds me of those dirty matcha lattes I would order from cafes in the past. Also, because I don't have a steaming wand or microwave to heat up my milk so mixing it with hot milk is usually quite a challenge for me...
You can get Good Tea Culture Company's Matcha Green Tea Powder here.
