September's K-Music Favourites
Along with our monthly K-Picks, ABC KOREA will be having monthly K-Music favourites! Whether it's a new song that was just released, or a old song that needs the spotlight, here are seven different tracks that range from pop, to rock, and even ballads.
YUQI's Bonnie & Clyde
I first heard this song on some Kpop compilation playlist I was listening to and was instantly attracted to YUQI's low, husky voice — it's perfect for this song! My friend also told me about how when YUQI first announced her plans for a solo debut, many were wondering if she would do it in Korean or Mandarin. But she chose neither and surprised them all with an English album!
2PM's Ok or Not
After five years, second-generation idols 2PM have made a comeback! "Ok or Not" is the third track in their comeback album MUST and it's a rather heart-wrenching track on breaking up with someone and then seeing them again — are you ok or not? 2PM does not disappoint in the quality of their music, and you will find yourself humming the chorus once you're done with the song!
Day6's Zombie
Written during a time when the members of Day6 were at one of the lowest moments of their lives, "Zombie" accurately captures what many of us may be struggling with — a monotonous, meaningless life where we can't seem to break out of this cycle and are just waiting for the days to pass us by. I got goosebumps when I read the lyrics to this song. Sometimes, we just need that perfect song to wallow in for a bit before picking ourselves up and trying to fight again. You can also check out the English version of Zombie here.
Sumin + Zion.T's Creamppang
Moving away from the mainstream, we have this quirky song from Sumin and Zion.T! Creamppang is a custard cream filled bread, a popular pastry in bakeries. Sumin and Zion.T's voices wonderfully complement each other in this song, and it will leave you wanting to have a bite of creamppang too!
Xydo ft. Moonbyul's Me Without You
Another song that tells of moving on from a breakup, we are treated to Xydo's calm, wistful voice matches perfectly with Moonbyul's soft, soulful rap to convey the feelings of suddenly finding oneself alone after a breakup. Perfect for when you want a suitable song to accompany you on peaceful days.
Lee Han Chul's Superstar
Probably the oldest song in this list, veteran musician Lee Han Chul's Superstar has recently gained attention from fans of the hit drama Hospital Playlist 2 that aired this year. This song was covered by the band comprising of Lee Ik Joon (Cho Jung Seok), Ahn Jeong Won (Yoo Yeon Seok), Kim Jun Wan (Jung Kyung Ho), Yang Seok Hyeong (Kim Dae Myung), and Chae Song Hwa (Jeon Mi Do) in the show and is a song that speaks to those in their early adulthood, or those who are going through a huge change in their lives — it's okay, everything will be fine.
KIMMUSEUM's We're Already
Are you a fan of jtbc's Nevertheless,? If you are, you may already know this song, but perhaps only its most iconic line "우리 이미 알고있지만" (uri imi algo-itjiman; even though we already know). Nevertheless, this is still a song I'd like to recommend because despite it being the titular OST, most are probably more familiar with other songs like J.UNA's Butterfly or Sam Kim's *Love Me Like That* due to the former's song being used as a signal for the end of an episode, and the latter's being played at many of the romantic scenes (also, maybe the fact that it's completely in English helps). Nevertheless, I think this song deserves recognition too!
