Experience Love At First Fright With These Horror Programs On Viu!

October is here and you know what that means. It’s time for Halloween! Now, there are a lot of ways we can celebrate from dressing up in fun and scary costumes to going out to do trick-or-treats.

But, for home buddies who would rather just stay inside the house to binge-watch horror programs, today is your lucky day. This time, we will be recommending seven thriller shows, so get your hearts ready!

Chimera

Drama: If you’re one of the people who got hooked with the Netflix series “Squid Game”, then you’ll probably enjoy this drama too! It stars actor Park Hae-soo (Player 218 in Squid Game) who will be playing the role of Cha Jae-hyun, a detective with an enthusiastic personality.

The thriller plot revolves around a present-day case that is connected to an explosion and serial murder in 1984. Jae-hyun alongside Soo-hyun (played by Eugene) and Lee Joong-yeob (played by Lee Hee-jun) will try and catch the criminal while uncovering secrets as they progress.

Guimoon

Movie: Released only this year, Guimoon is a horror film starring Kim Kang-woo as Do-jin, who works as director of a Psychic Research Institute. 

In 1990, a serial murder incident happened at a training center in Guisari, leading to its closure. Protagonist Do-jin then visits the said place, in an attempt to figure out why his mother died there.

At the same time, three university students are also at the training center to shoot a video for a contest.

Guimoon bagged the no.4 spot on the Korean box office during its release date.

The Master’s Sun

Drama: OG Korean drama lovers have most likely watched this drama already, but for those who are new in the scene, this is one of the must-watch shows that should be in your list!

The Master’s Sun stars top Korean celebrities So Ji-Sub, who plays the role of Joo Joong-won, a cold-hearted CEO and Gong Hyo-jin, playing the character of Tae Gong-shil, who has a gloomy personality because she can see ghosts.

Despite the program being horror-themed, with ghosts appearing here and there, it also has a touch of romance and comedy. As the story deepens, the two main characters develop a complicated relationship.

The story is even more interesting with the appearance of Seo In-guk as Kang Woo, a former soldier and head of security and Kim Yoo-ri as Tae Yi-ryung who is a top star and model. Both of them are employed by Joong-won.

The Witch Part 1

Movie: Directed by award-winning director Park Hoon-jung, The Witch: Part 1 is mystery, horror and action film combined.

It centres on Ja Yoon (played by Kim Da-mi), a female kid who escaped from a mysterious laboratory. She passes out at a farm, and the owners take care of her and eventually adopt her.

Fast forward to ten years, she is finally living a normal life.  Ja Yoon enters a nationwide competition to earn money for her family. However, it catches the attention of the people who were working at the laboratory.

The Wicked

Movie: Have you ever encountered a new employee at your work? Did you manage to get along with them or were they treated as an outcast?

This basically sums up the film The Wicked. Se Yeong (played by Park Jo-Hee), recently started working at an office. But, due to her awkward and introvert personality, she was bullied by her team leader Lee Seon (played by Na Soo-yoon).

Soo Yoon quickly regrets her actions when she discovers that Se Yeong is not just a regular colleague.

The Cursed

Drama: Just by hearing the title alone, you probably think that this show is going to involve ghosts and spirits. Well, you’re not mistaken.

The Cursed stars Uhm Ji-won who plays the role of reporter Jin-hee who is in-charge of covering a violent case involving at IT company. The IT company’s chairman is Jin Jong-hyun (played by Sung Dong-il,) known for being a believer of shamanism.

As Jin-hee continues her investigation, she crosses path with a spiritual consulting company as well as a female possessed by a spirit. Will they be able to help her with the case? You have to watch it to find out!

Possessed

Movie: Our list will not be complete without a throwback entry so here is the horror film Possessed, which was released back in 2009.

Nam Sang-mi plays the role of Hee-jin, a college student who goes back to her hometown after her sister, So-jin, disappears. A rumour then surfaces that Soo-jin has been possessed.

Hee-jin’s journey to finding her sister then becomes more and more difficult, and a neighbour who committed suicide also starts appearing in her dreams.
