February’s K-Music Favourites

Have you finally adjusted to the New Year? If your answer is yes, then that’s great! We’ve got some feel-good Korean songs on out list to make your month even better.

If you’re still having a hard time, that’s okay too! We have some mellow tunes to help you keep calm and relax this February.

SUNMI – Gashina

This song came out almost 5 years ago, but Gashina still remains as one of Sunmi’s most iconic songs. This was her first comeback under her new label MAKEUS Entertainment and after the disbandment of WonderGirls, so many fans were anticipating its release.

The queen did not disappoint because the song is just so catchy with its beat drop in the chorus (it’s produced by YG’s Teddy!) combined with a meaningful lyrics that will have you singing your hearts out.

Plus, it has the powerful “gun” choreography that even became a dance challenge trend amongst idols and possibly, the whole South Korea.

MINZY – Fantabulous

Minzy is indeed both fantastic and fabulous in this song with her eye-catching make up and outfits combined with her simple yet chic hairstyle in the music video.

What I liked about this song is that it showcased her talent in singing and rapping, something that is refreshing to see since she was known for her dancing skills back when she was in 2NE1.

In my opinion, the song also has a “Latin” feel into it, making you sway your hips to the rhythm, something that is expected since Minzy is really talented when it comes to choreographies!

BE’O ft. Beenzino – Counting Stars

I first heard this song on Tiktok, and I was instantly hooked. I searched it on Youtube and to my surprise; there wasn’t even an official song yet! It turned out to be BE’Os audition piece on MNET’s rap survival program Show Me The Money.

So, when the rapper officially released Counting Stars on streaming platforms, you best believe that I played it on repeat!

It’s not just the hip-hop beat of the music that’s addicting, the story behind the lyrics is also what’s make it lovable. In the song, BE’O and Beenzino raps about their life story, making it more meaningful and deep.

CNBLUE – Love Cut

There may be newer and younger K-bands out there now, but CNBLUE will always have a special place in the hearts of 2nd generation fans.

Love Cut is the perfect moving on song for those who are going to be partner-less this Valentine’s Day. As the title suggests, the boys are singing about putting an end to a love, and letting go of all the memories.

They say it will hurt, but it will heal – which is 100% true! It’s better to be single than staying with someone who is not right for us, correct?

EXO – Lotto

When I first heard the song, I thought that the song would be all about money. It wasn’t but it was somehow related.

Lotto is a song that expresses the feeling of “hitting the jackpot” after meeting a certain someone that you end up really liking. Of course, them reciprocating our feelings can be compared to winning lotto!

The EXO members also exhibited a bad boy image in the music video with their leather jackets, alcohol and weapons. It gives off that mafia vibes we only see in K-dramas~

K Will – Please Don’t

I am not exaggerating when I say that this is not just a song, but also a masterpiece. Watch the music video and you’ll get what I mean!

K Will’s soulful vocals paired with the emotional beat will make you feel heartbroken even if you’re not. He also did a great job with the visuals that accompanied the song, featuring a love triangle between two guys and one girl.

However, at the end there is a surprising twist that will leave you speechless. It will also make you realise that the lyrics don’t always talk about the obvious ;)

BLACKPINK – As If It’s Your Last

It’s been a while since BLACKPINK’s last comeback, and while waiting for them to release something new, As If It’s Your Last is one of their songs that I love to listen to on a daily basis.

Aside from the girls’ powerful vocals and dance steps, what got me hooked are their visuals and colourful outfits in the video. Moreover, the song is a good reminder for all us to live life to the fullest.

BLACKPINK reminds us to love as if it’s our last, an important words to follow especially because tomorrow is not always promised.
