Mnet’s rap competition program “Show Me The Money” has entered its 10th season and will be premiering their first episode this coming October. The show is solely focused on hip-hop, where competitors battle in a series of rounds until only one rapper is left.

SMTM was launched in 2012. According to its chief producer, his aim is to let the people know that Korean music scene is not just about idol dance music. He seems to be successful in doing so, as the show has been mostly credited for the growing popularity of hip-hop in South Korea.

Rappers who are more experienced are invited as judges of the program. They also serve as mentors and producers, as they are the ones who guide the contestants as the show progresses.

Kwon Hyuk-woo, better known as Loco, was the first ever winner of Show Me The Money. After winning the program, he signed with Jay Park’s label AOMG.

Since then, Loco has released hit songs like “Don't” alongside MAMAMOO’s Hwasa and “Late Night” with label-mate Gray. He even dabbled in singing OSTs – releasing “Say Yes” with singer Punch, for the drama Moonlovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

Loco later returned as a producer for Show Me The Money’s 4th season.

Although the show’s contestants are mostly rookie rappers, SMTM is also not a stranger to idol participants. In fact, the 3rd season’s champion was BOBBY, who is now a member of the YG group iKON.

What’s even more amazing about his feat is that he was still a trainee when he joined. He appeared in the show with BI, who is the former leader of iKON and now a solo artist.

Other idols that auditioned in the show include VIXX’s Ravi and MONSTA X’s Jooheon.

This year, the show is also widely anticipated by viewers, especially after Mnet dropped this season’s producer line-up.

The first team to be announced was AOMG’s Gray and MINO, who is a member of YG’s boy group WINNER.

Gray, who debuted in 2012, has already experienced being the judge on the show’s 5th season. Meanwhile, MINO joined the 4th season and won second place.

The next producers that were announced were Zion. T and Slom. Zion. T is popular R&B and hip-hop singer who is currently signed under Black Label, a subsidiary company of YG Entertainment. He is also a former judge on the 5th season of the show.

On the other hand, Slom is a producer and beat maker based in LA. His latest work is in collaboration with singer SUMIN, in the album called “MINISERIES.”

Third in the line-up is rapper Yumdda who worked as VJ for MTV Korea and founded Daytona Entertainment with Illionaire Records’ The Quiett.

His teammate will be producer TOIL, who released his first studio album “Curtain Call” back in April.

Last but not the least is Gaeko and Code Kunst.

Gaeko is a part of Dynamic Duo with rapper Choiza. They debuted with the album Taxi Driver back in 2004, which then became the best selling Korean hip-hop album. He is also one of the founders of the label Amoeba Culture.

Code Kunst, who appeared as a judge on SMTM season 7 and 9, is a composer and producer under AOMG. In 2019, Korean Hip-Hop Awards nominated him for Best Producer.

To fuel the fans’ excitement, Mnet also released a cypher involving all of this season’s producers. You can watch it below while waiting for the premier episode happening on October 1st!
