7 Hair Colour Inspirations from Kpop

Staying at home during COVID-19 has resulted in many of us going rogue with our hair. Those with long hair may have chopped them off for a spunky pixie or a fun bob while those who have always sported virgin hair may have gone for a perm or dye.

For those of you who may be considering dyeing your hair, why not take some inspiration from these Kpop stars?

Purple — Jungkook

Not only does Jungkook have ARMY tattooed on his fingers, his hair matches BTS' official colour too! What other way to say borahae than with a funky purple hairdo?

There are different types of purple, so choose the one that fits your skin tone best. If you are warm-toned, choose warmer purples like lavender or grape. If you are cool-toned, choose cooler purples like periwinkle or indigo.

Pink — AleXa

Vibrant pinks can give you a bright, youthful appearance. A more saturated colour can even give you that "don't mess with me" vibe just like AleXa in her newest song, Xtra.

Just like all electric hair colours, the dye will fade off in time and this softer, dustier look will give you an overall sweeter appearance. Or, you can always stay edgy with your clothes, like what AleXa has done.

Blue — The8

Now that we've seen a few bright colours, how about some more muted tones for those who'd rather not stand out that much? SEVENTEEN's The8 sports a deep navy colour that shines brightly in the light. Without harsh light though, this colour often appears black and can help you blend in with others (if you don't want all eyes on you for your hair).

Navy or blue hair tends to fade to grey or green, depending on the type of dye used. So think of it as getting two colours in one! The colour is also very flattering for any skin tone, so this is definitely the colour to try if you're still hesitant.

Rose Gold — Taeyeon

Another colour that isn't too out there for those who aren't confident in trying unnatural colours. Taeyeon's rose gold hair in her Weekend MV is still within the "natural hair colour" spectrum and is good for someone who'd like a change but is hesitant on choosing colours.

You will have to bleach your hair for this colour and it's light enough if you'd like to dye other colours once you're ready. You can style it like how Taeyeon did here, with simple white clothes but with a fun, summery eye look consisting of blue, pink, and yellow eyeshadow.

Red — Ningning

Enough of subtlety, it's time for some fire! Ningning's fiery red hair in Next Level surely caught the eye of many. Reds look good with almost anybody, and are still considered rather tame as compared to other colours like blue or purple. This makes red an ideal colour for someone wanting to experiment with their hair, but is worried about the colour matching well with their skin tone.

Coloured hair generally gives off a more casual look but depending on how you style your red hair, you still can look professional while rocking it! If required, you might want to try deeper shades of red instead to fit into any dress codes you might have to abide by.

Mint — Gowon

LOONA's Gowon went all out with this mint hair! Mint is a really pretty colour that can easily be found on clothes and accessories, but it's rare for someone to try it on their hair. Although, aren't we glad that Gowon did? She looks amazing! This colour might be harder to match with skin tones, so you might want to try editing the colour onto your portrait before dyeing.

Take note that bright colours fade so you might require frequent touchups if you want to keep the vibrancy. If not, you can always let it wash out naturally before dyeing another colour! (The writer speaks from experience that a lot of people will think you've redyed your hair even though it's only the colour washing out.)

Pastel Rainbow — Ha Sungwoon

Can't pick a colour? Why not go for all? Rainbow hair may be a little harder to achieve, but it's definitely worth the effort! You can choose as many or as few colours as you'd like, or you can do what Ha Sungwoon did in his Sneakers MV where he has a main base of pink, but the tips of his hair is multicoloured.

Colourful hair is best seen in bright sunlight, so do schedule some time to take your photos outside after dyeing!

We hope that these celebrity looks have given you some inspiration for your next hair colour. If you're on a budget and want to dye your hair yourself, stay tuned for a list of hairdyes you can use!
