April’s K-Music Favourites
Congratulations! You’ve already made it through the first quarter of 2022. Here are 7 our recommend K-Pop songs to help you welcome this new month.
Whether it’s hot, raining or cold in your area – ABC Korea has the music to fit your mood.
ToppDogg – Rainy Day
Although ToppDogg is not active as a group anymore as the members have went their separate ways in their career, “Rainy Day” is a song that I still enjoy listening to when (you guessed it right!), the skies are crying.
I was surprised when the group made their comeback with this track because it was far from the other music that they’ve released. ToppDogg was known for their hip-hop, upbeat works – but this song is proof that they can do it all!
The mellow yet powerful rhythms and rap will cheer you up when you’re feeling blue.
Wonder Girls – Nobody
Are you even a certified K-Pop fan if you don’t know this iconic song? It’s just one of the greatest hits in 2008 released by JYP Entertainment’s girl group Wonder Girls!
Nobody is a song that became so popular not just in South Korea, but all around Asia! It was so famous that even the well-known “Cebu Dancing Inmates” in the Philippines danced to this track.
It was no surprise that this music was so well liked, because the lyrics we’re so catchy and the steps were very easy to follow. There is no single person who did not know the words to this song back then, and even if you play this song right now, many fans would gladly dance their hearts out!
HYOLYN, DASOM – Summer or Summer
It was an end of an era for the summer lovers when SISTAR disbanded – as the group was known for releasing songs to beat the hot season. But, former members Hyolyn and Dasom came to the rescue when they once again worked together to release the ultimate summer song!
Aside from the music video that was shot on the beach to give off that vacation vibes, it has that signature cheery beat that brings back memories for STAR1s.
“Summer or Summer” is also accompanied with sexy steps that highlights the duo’s hourglass figures. But, the best part of the clip is seeing the two of them reunited again. Here’s to hoping for a SISTAR reunion this year~
San E ft. Verbal Jint & Swings – Where Did You Sleep
This hip-hop track by San E featuring his rapper friends Verbal Jint and Swings is a witty way of asking your significant other about their whereabouts the following night.
Don’t get fooled with the track’s happy flow, because it’s meaning is actually a bit sad when you read the translation.
The reason why I liked this song is because the lyrics tell a story. Even though they did not specifically say that the other person was cheating, it was implied because the “man” was voicing out his doubts – something that some people who are in a relationship go through.
Red Velvet – Feel My Rhythm
After 7 months, Red Velvet has finally made their comeback with “The ReVe Festival 2022 - Feel My Rhythm”, a sequel for their 2019 trilogy “The ReVe Festival”.
The girls have reclaimed their title as concept queens because the music video for the song is nothing but aesthetic. It features different themes with outfits and make-ups that bring out their visuals even more too!
What’s even better is their vocals – from the high notes, catchy chorus and raps, Red Velvet slayed the whole track.
ATEEZ – Wave
It may have been released 2 years ago, but “Wave” by ATEEZ is still included in my summer playlist this 2022.
The song starts off on a sweet, relaxing tone before transitioning into a “reggae” beat that catches your attention. But, probably my favourite part of the track is the chorus when the boys sing “Hakuna Matata” – a phrase, which means “No worries”.
For me, it’s not just your ordinary summer music. The song also encourages its listeners to ride the wave (which represents our life’s problems) because it will eventually pass, and enjoy the moment.
JINU ft. MINO – Call Anytime
Being in a relationship with someone is hard since it will require sacrifices and compromises, but being in a “no label” situation with someone is harder. This song by WINNER’s JINU perfectly describes that feeling.
It’s difficult when they are not responding to your messages, or not answering your phone calls even if you’re dialling again and again. However, at the end of the day there is nothing you can do since the two of you are not official!
Sounds very specific, but I bet many of us can relate to this. So, if you ever find yourself in the same boat (we hope not!), you know just the right track to play.
There you have it, our April’s K-Music recommendations. Happy listening!
